Well, it’s just one of those Mondays. I had a nice, relaxing weekend, ate tasty food, drank wonderful wine, and danced to great tunes – so to be back at the grind is a little less than ideal. But, that being said, there’s always a way to brighten up the beginning of the week – and this particular movie moment is exactly the ticket.
It’s actually more of a holiday film, but I just couldn’t resist the temptation to chuckle out loud at the charming hilarity of this scene today, even if it’s barely September. As easily one of my favourite movies of all-time for an infinite number of reasons (including other adorable and witty scenes), this flick has a beautiful message that resounds true at any time of the year: love, actually is, all around.
This Love Actually scene is classically Hugh Grant (also a favourite actor of mine), in all of his quirky and comedic glory. Again, his character is the perfectly polite and sarcastic Brit we’ve come to know and love him as in other hit romantic-comedies – only this time he’s also an approachably sweet British Prime Minister who prior to this scene, stands up to pushy and arrogant American President Billy Bob Thornton in a press conference. Upon returning to his room after his triumphant speech that publicly proved his seriousness as Prime Minister and dedication to his country, a famous upbeat ditty called “Jump (For My Love)” pops on the radio, sparking a hilarious sequence of laugh-out-loud dance moves from the pumped-up Pres. And, his reaction when caught boogie-ing by an uptight housekeeper is absolutely priceless – so much so that I spit a little coffee on my keyboard this morning. British wit is really unlike any other.
There’s no way you won’t crack a smile with this scene, even if it is Monday! In a nutshell, it’s just what the doctor ordered.
