Last night the Ottawa chapter of inanutshell got together for a slightly sadder occasion than usual. Flanked by dinner, drinks and lots of laughs we gathered to say goodbye to one of our closest friends. Jenn (who you can see with the rest of the inanutshell clan in side photo) is leaving us on Thursday for an amazing experience, an internship at the human rights centre in Cambodia. While none of us could be prouder or happier for her to be living out her dream, it is always painful to say goodbye to one of the pack. We had to do it first with Allison who moved to Toronto (also accompanying inanutshell in above photo), then Kaylee returning to her hometown of Montreal and now Jenn flying across the world. That’s what happens when you meet your soul mates in university. You know that eventually you’re not all going to live off the same street, hang out every Thursday night at the same bar, and be just a short walk away, forever. While four out of our seven besties remain in the capital we all know it’s just a matter of time before boyfriends, jobs, and new pursuits capture another one of us and bring on a new set of adventures. Last night amid tears … and lots of wine …. we realized that the best part about having a best friend (or in our lucky case, six of them) is that friendship like the one we have does not stop with a move or a change. It’s the kind of bond that makes you say “If you need me, I’ll be there” whether that means traveling 10 minutes or 10,000 miles. So although we will always look back on our university days of silliness with a smile, here’s to the next decade of engagements, weddings, baby showers, and promotions, because you know we’ll all be there for every one. Tequila shot in hand, love in heart, smile on face … in a nutshell.
An ode to the girl who gives the best looks, always has your back, is ready for any adventure, and has left a huge mark on our city and lives. We’ll miss you JT, xoxo
The perfect quote for the occasion, sometimes Carrie just says it best ….
